First Office Visit

First Appointment

What Can I Expect?

The very fact that you have been referred to a neurosurgeon suggests that you or your family may be under a great deal of stress. We understand that this is a difficult time, so when you visit our office we will make every effort to make your visit as comfortable as possible. In addition to providing the highest quality neurosurgical care possible, we also place a great deal of emphasis on education and information regarding your condition. We want you and your family to understand all aspects of your medical condition and the treatment process, so please feel free to ask questions of any member of our staff.

About Your Appointment

All patients are seen on an appointment basis, and you should plan to be in our office for approximately one and a half hours. This amount of time is needed for a complete review of all records, a detailed examination, coordination of tests, surgery scheduling and referrals. You will undergo a very thorough initial evaluation by the doctor during your first appointment. Further testing may be required – however, for many conditions the doctor may recommend conservative therapy in order to avoid surgery. It is absolutely essential that you bring the following information with you for your first appointment to ensure the most complete evaluation: CT scans, angiograms, myelograms and any other X-rays from ALL physicians or other healthcare professionals you have seen regarding your problem. We need to see the actual pictures – not just the reports. Copies of all related office visits to physicians or other healthcare professionals, hospital records, X-ray reports and pathology reports. We know your time is valuable, so we make every effort to have the doctor see you on time. However, please understand that emergencies occur periodically and can cause delays. We will do our best to inform you as far in advance as possible of any delays or the need to reschedule your appointment.
